Twitter has spend the past year building ties with major TV networks and now its gone one better: locked in a movie deal.
Lights, camera, tweet
Twitter has partnered with cinema advertising giant NCM Media Networks in a deal powered by Twitter's Amplify advertising platform.
Under the arrangement, Twitter will produce a weekly one-minute program highlighting trending movie and entertainment topics across Twitter and Vine.
The program will be shown on 20,000 cinema screens across the US as part of the pre-movie entertainment and will feature call to action hashtags, inviting viewers to join the conversation.
“Twitter has become an amazing barometer of movie trends, and this new show will take theatre audiences beyond the red-carpet for an original look inside the world of movies,” said Cliff Marks, president of sales and marketing with NCM Media Networks.
Mobile to movies
The deal marks another way Twitter is exploring new partnerships, and revenue options, beyond mobile and web.
If it takes off let's hope it won't lead to more audience members tweeting throughout the movie.
