Who said TV was dead? Not according to Twitter, which is making great strides into TV sets and lounge rooms across the globe.
TV trending
Twitter is reportedly testing a “TV Trending” feature which highlights which shows are being discussed in real time.
The most popular shows appear as Twitter cards at the top of the timeline and are accompanied with information and related tweets about the program such as screening dates.
Twitter also wants users to join conversation: when users click on the show then the compose button, the dialogue box comes loaded with the relevant hashtag.
Ratings win
Twitter is a good fit for TV, with users often live tweeting and voting on television programs.
This harmony extends to Twitter and TV advertisers, who can reach audiences they previously engaged on traditional TV ads.
Earlier this year Twitter rolled out targeted TV ads, which allows advertisers to send Promoted Tweets to users who had watched their advertisement.
TV Trending may lead to more engagement online about what's happening offline, potentially attracting more advertising to the platform.
