There must be something in the water at Twitter HQ – the micro-blogging service has been cranking out experimental features faster than you can say retweet.
Magic pictures
The latest comes in the form of @magicpixx, a new account whose bio reads “Follow me for house-curated, artisanal pictures delivered directly to your timeline. (A highly experimental bot by @wm. Follow at your own risk!)”
It appears @magicpixx works by sending curated pictures directly to your timeline.
For example, if you follow @magicpixx and mention “summer” in a tweet, odds are @magicpixx will send a summer-related image to your timeline.
Tinkering with tweets
The account is similar to recent Twitter test accounts @MagicRecs, which sends direct messages suggesting who to follow, and @magicstats, which attempts to predict trending topics.
While @magicpixx is being run by Twitter engineer William Morgan and isn't an official account, is does provide an interesting look in to new ways Twitter can communicate with its users.
Picture this
Pictures have become big news since Twitter allowed photos to appear on the timeline. A recent test by The Next Web found tweets with images received up to 150 per cent more retweets.
If Twitter could re-jig the formula behind @magicpixx into an advertising package it could prove a nice little money earner.
