Twitter is testing a new way to see how much traction your tweets are getting.
The micro-blogging platform now shows the number of views individual tweets have received, displayed underneath the tweet in question.
More is more
While Twitter has long offered impression information to users running campaigns, this marks the first time the platform has provided this data to everyday users.
Along with similar features such as notifications when your posts are retweeted, it appears to be about getting average users to interact more on Twitter.
Stagnation?
Twitter is facing a problem with stagnating user growth and an increasing number of users who are “lurkers”.
Some estimates puts “lurkers” – users who browse Twitter but do not post or comment – as high as 40 per cent of all active users.
As engagement is the name of the game when it comes to advertising, it makes sense for Twitter to roll out new products encouraging more conversation.
The update might also prove handy for brands looking for an instant snapshot into how their day-to-day tweets are stacking up.
