What Australia searched for in 2012

In 2012 it seems people were most interested in celebrities, disasters, and an irritating but undeniably catchy K-Pop tune, according to Google anyway.

For the past 11 years the Google Zeitgeist Project has collated global search trends across a range of categories.

With data from 1.2 trillion searches to crunch the list is always eclectic and this year is no exception. Whitney Houston topped the global list for most searched term, followed by Gangnam Style and Hurricane Sandy.

Besides naming the most prominent deceased celebrities, Zeitgeist offers an interesting look into Australia's search habits. Last year's report reveaied Australians were searching for planking (remember that?), cupcakes and the Royal Wedding.

This year shows a swing towards Lara Bingle, love, Toyota, pizza and Morgan Freeman.
