While the instant Messaging space is being hotly contested by virtually every major platform, it could be argued that security hasn’t been keeping pace with users’ hunger for real-time conversations.
That’s something WhatsApp is trying to address.
Locked and loaded
WhatsApp has recently joined forces with Open WhisperSystems to roll out end-to-end encryption across all its services.
The security software, called TextSecure, means your information is protected – apparently even if a US court requests access.
Safe and sound
Facebook-owned WhatsApp currently has hundreds of millions of users who send over a billion messages a day.
It's also locked in an intense struggle for control of the lucrative DM space with the likes of Snapchat and Google Hangouts.
One nasty security breach could be all it takes for legions of users to flock from one service to another that’s more secure. Plus Facebook is well-versed in how sensitive users can be around their privacy.
