YouTube has launched a new web look clearly influenced by the platform’s mobile apps.
Mobile move
YouTube announced the news in a blog post, explaining the redesign is aimed at its mobile viewers, who now account for more that half of YouTube’s audience.
“The way you watch YouTube keeps changing, so we’re making a few tweaks to YouTube to keep up with you.
“Starting today you’ll see some changes to make it easier to find what you want to watch on YouTube and collect playlists to watch again and again,” wrote YouTube web developer Yining Zhao.
Plug and play
The new look also features an increased emphasis on playlists.
Any playlists users create or Like now appear in the left sidebar, while editing playlists has also been streamlined.
Curated content
The update reflects two important elements in YouTube’s next evolution: the shift towards mobile and the swing towards more curated content.
And the refresh won't hurt as Facebook prepares to launch video advertising.
