YouTube recently celebrated its 7th birthday, and used the occasion to announce a milestone: the site now uploads 72 hours of video every minute.
Growing in 60 seconds
A year ago YouTube announced that 48 hours of footage were uploaded every minute, it now takes three days to watch all the videos uploaded to the site in sixty seconds.
This marks an impressive all-time high, and if current trends continue the video giant should be uploading 96 hours every minute by the end of the year.
Birthday Blog
YouTube made the announcement in a blog post, where it took the occasion to highlight other gains in the past year: a site redesign and the launch of a channel-focused strategy that emphasises original content by brands and individuals.
Thank You
For its sixth birthday YouTube wrote its users a thank you note, and this year the site once more acknowledged its fans by releasing a video.
The video celebrates major milestones including its birth in founder Chad Hurley’s garage, Google’s $1.5billion acquisition of YouTube in 2006 and the introduction of YouTube HD in 2008. It also includes clips from well-known videos including the first video ever posted on YouTube, High Five For First Kiss, Hearing For The First Time, and Kony 2012.
A summary accompanying the birthday video says “Thanks for the amazing things you watch, create, and share!”
