Popular voice assist programs Alexa (by Amazon) and Microsoft's Cortana have teamed up, allowing for users to utilise both AI through either platform.
Double the AI, double the access
Amidst so many voiced assistants, such as Alexa, Bixby, Cortana, Google Assistant, and Siri, it can be difficult to choose a specific personality depending on your device and what task you want to achieve.
Now, such tasks as buying Amazon groceries through Cortana, or operating Microsoft Office via Alexa is no longer fanciful thinking.
The new partnership allows both programs to effectively double their feature lists, and offer users of both Amazon and Microsoft camps more versatility through their devices.
Voice assist becomes major player
Flexibility is paramount to voice assistants. Now users can take advantage of features specific to different assistants without keeping track which does what.
This means Windows 10 users have a built-in Cortana with an Alexa back-end while Alexa, native to many mobile devices, has all the benefits of its Microsoft counterpart.
It's been rumoured that Sonos plans to release a speaker combining multiple voice assistants in the not-too-distant future.
If other hardware giants join the trend (Google, Apple, etc.) we may see an unprecedented evolution in how users engage with voice assistants.
