Microsoft has just released a bunch of updates making editing and sourcing credible content on Office 365 easier.
Here’s what you need to know.
Editor
Microsoft is billing Editor as an advanced proofing and editing service for Word. It does this via machine learning and natural language processing.
In plain terms, Editor will offer tips on how to simplify and streamline your writing by alerting you to unclear phrases or words. Editor will also make suggestions if required.
While still in its early stage, the cloud-based Editor will get smarter as it learns, Microsoft promises us. We figure anything's better than a return to Clippy.
Stay focused
Outlook also gets two updates. The Focused Inbox is now available on Windows, Mac, and Outlook on the web.
This feature separates your inbox into two tabs – a Focused tab that contains your most important correspondence, and an Other tab for the rest.
The second update is @mentions, which makes it easier to flag emails that needs the attention of your team.
Type the @ symbol in the body of the email and add the name of the person who needs to action the email. This will automatically highlight their name and add their email address in the To: line.
Researcher
Researcher for Word is designed to help you discover reliable sources and content for your documents.
Researcher accesses the Bing Knowledge Graph to scour the net for related content from credible around the web. For example, research papers from universities and studies from established encyclopaedias.
This can be then be added, in properly formatted citation, directly into a Word document.
