LinkedIn has announced it's adding predictive smart reply technology to its messaging platform.
Machine learning to help you chat
LinkedIn Product Manager Arpit Dahariwal revealed the new messaging feature will be available in English, with other languages to be added down the road.
The feature will use AI to craft replies based on the message you receive. The smart reply feature will produce up to three responses relevant to the context of the current conversation.
For example, if a colleague messages you to ask if you are available for coffee, the app can then generate three answers such as “Yes I am,” “What time?” and “Sure!”
Refining answers
LinkedIn made it clear that tailoring accurate and context appropriate replies will be an ongoing process, adding more predictive responses.
Over the coming weeks, the professional social platform will be able to not only suggest “Thanks” but personalise the message as “Thanks, Joe” or “Thanks, Sarah,” and so on.
With the increased popularity of machine learning, automated responses are becoming less clunky and more natural, which could make texting as efficient as ever.
Smart reply will be available on both the mobile app and the desktop site. "Thanks for reading, Joe."
