Instagram is jazzing up content by rolling out Type, a feature which allows users to overlay text in different fonts and backgrounds.
Not new, but new to Instagram
Type is really a means to keep up with the Snapchat and Facebook fashion of adding a bit of the written word to any photo, album, or video being uploaded.
Users can choose from several fonts while Instagram automatically assigns a gradient or plain background.
Technically, Type is a mass rollout of a feature already tested amongst Japanese users back in December.
Not the only new feature
Along with fonts and gradients, Instagram is also updating its notification system. Previously, users would be alerted whenever a screenshot was taken of direct messages and the same will be true for Stories.
The new system will simply send a warning to the guilty party on their first offence but will give the sender a heads up if it happens a second time.
Instagram hasn’t given any official news just yet as to when a wider rollout is to be expected. Until then, users can start looking forward to fancy new fonts for expression…just don’t take a screen cap.
