According to one study, Amazon has just overtaken Google and Apple to become the world's most influential brand on social media.
Amazonian victory
The report from Klout ranked the top 50 brands in terms of social sway, with Amazon leading the pack ahead of Microsoft, MTV, Google and Facebook.
Klout used the findings from the Interbrand 2014 Best Global Brand report and applyed them to the Klout scale.
“According to our data, these brands set the standard for sharing top tier digital content and consistently engaging their audience,” Klout explained.
Reach out
Essentially Klout ranked brands according to the content they produced, and experiences that were created for customers.
Interestingly, while Apple ranked first on Interbrand's study, they did not make Klout's top 10 (Apple is infamous for its social shy approach, only recently opening its first Tumblr account).
On the other hand Amazon, which was ranked 15th most influential by Interbrand, took top gong from Klout for its leveraging of real time events and product offers.
Klout's findings show that being recognisable on social isn't enough. Being active is essential.
