Facebook and Instagram are rolling out new tools to help users navigate and use their time more efficiently over their respective apps.
New Arrivals
The tools for both apps promise new daily reminders, increased notification control, and an easy to use activity dashboard, according to the latest announcement.
Facebook wants very much to be seen supporting healthy transparency and claim they hope to “…foster conversations between parents and teens about the online habits that are right for them.”
The new dashboard will be the focal point of increased control and tailored notifications. Facebook has also introduced See First, Hid, Unfollow, and Keyword Snooze to help encourage a positive social space.
Access
To get to the new tools, go to the settings page on either Instagram or Facebook, then tap “Your Activity” (Instagram) or “Your Time on Facebook” (Facebook). Finally, select the meter bar to see your time usage for that day.
A new “Mute Push Notifications” has also been added in order to selectively calm undesired alerts while keeping others on default.
What are your thoughts on keeping track of app time usage? Would you be inclined to curb behaviour if faced with big numbers? Let us know in the comments below.
