In the latest chapter of the social tug-of-wars, it looks like Facebook is struggling to remain relevant against its young rival Snapchat.
Facebook becomes grandpa
Though Facebook undoubtedly remains popular amongst users, the lucrative 18 – 24 year old demographic are more interested in Snapchat.
By the end of the year, Snapchat is poised to become the most relevant social app to users under 25 years, and predicted to grow by more than 350,000 users, according to eMarketer.
The tally of total monthly users will rest just shy of 5 million, which puts Snapchat ahead of Facebook in the UK for the first time.
A giant’s fall
Facebook will endure its second consecutive year of decline with a loss of more than 500,000 users.
Facebook has also dropped by $120 billion in value in August alone, dropping Mark Zuckerberg from the third richest man in the world to the sixth.
If Snapchat can play the long game, they could become more of a threat as their own users mature.
Are you surprised by Snapchat overtaking Facebook? Do you think Facebook can pivot and become relevant to the youth of the world once more? Let us know in the comments below.
