Facebook is poised to release a new mobile advertising feature called Facebook Audience Network.
Mo' money
According to a report in Tech Crunch, Facebook will announce the feature at the f8 conference.
Facebook Audience Network (FAN), which has been in beta since 2012, will reportedly allow advertisers and developers to access Facebook's ad targeting data to create standard and custom mobile ad units.
Targeted content
Facebook currently caps the ads it shows to its mobile users, but FAN is expected to increase this limit – at least for advertisers with big budgets.
The real difference though will be the targeting Facebook can offer advertisers – that will presumably be more far more detailed that existing mobile advertising options.
Get moving
With recent Q1 earnings showing 59 per cent of Facebook's ad revenue now comes from mobile devices, the social network is clearly amping up its efforts away from desktop.
If users can stomach a greater number of ads showing more relevant content, FAN might be a win for marketers, users and of course Facebook.
