Facebook is amping up its Search muscle by bringing Graph Search to its massive mobile user base.
Find book?
Facebook announced the news in a blog post.
"You’ve told us the most important thing is being able to find posts you’ve seen before, and now you can.
"With a quick search, you can get back to a fun video from your graduation, a news article you’ve been meaning to read, or photos from your friend’s wedding last summer," explained Facebook's VP of Search, Tom Stocky.
Search and ye shall find
Graph Search first debuted in 2013 on desktop, and allowed users to scan their friends social data when performing searches.
For example, users could search for their friends' favourite cafe, or the best Italian restaurant in their area.
Now users can apply this search to mobile, in addition to an increased ability to resurface previous Facebook posts.
Mobile shake up
The move signals how serious Facebook is about search. While Graph Search won't feature ads for the time being, it's not inconceivable to imagine them being rolled out in the future.
By leveraging the social data from its 1.25 billion users, Facebook might eventually prove a threat to both real-time conversations on Twitter and Google's dominance of search.
Get set for an interesting 2015.
