GIPHY is doing what it does best: promoting GIF creation through a new and wacky app.
The artful GIF
Yup, now users can spin the art of the GIF with virtual reality, thanks to GIPHY World.
Inspired by the AR version of the app, the new VR approach will allow users to transform their landscape, as well as shape and control virtual objects.
Along with the growing popularity of AR stickers on Facebook and Snapchat, GIPHY wants to bring more of an artful touch to the growing medium.
The VR toolkit
Users will be able to select from a list of environments that can serve as either the background of the piece or simply be the canvas, ranging from a spooky cabin to an island desert.
The app has also been built around the GIPHY API meaning it contains a robust supply of GIFs for users to adapt and play with. A personal assistant will help with recording the final product.
For some, the experience will no doubt be clumsy at first. However using AR to encourage VR creations is tapping into a rising popularity in both gaming and art. GIPHY may have a hit on their hands.
