Instagram is allowing users to apply for verification, and the roll out includes a few new general security upgrades as well.
Get the stamp
For accounts with larger audiences and high engagment, content creators can apply for a new vetting process to officially verify of all their deets.
The application process is straightforward: simply head to “Settings” and click on “request verification.”
All users need to provide is their account name, full given name, and their business ID. After a waiting period, Instagram will notify the user of their approval or rejection. That’s it.
Third-party authenticators
Upping their security game as well, Instagram is partnering with Google Authenticator and DUO Mobile, which allows users to modify their own two-factor authentication to receive codes outside of text messages.
Instagram is also adding an “About This Account” feature for accounts with large followings, which will show information such as when the account joined Instagram, location, username changes, and current ad runs.
Many of these measures are meant to counteract the trolling campaigns of siting erroneous news throughout users during the US 2016 election. We'll see if battening down the hatches keeps the leaks at bay.
