Google+ continues to die a death of a thousand cuts.
The latest indignation: live streaming feature Hangouts on Air has been cut off at the knees in favour of YouTube.
Live it up
Google explained in a blog post that from September 12 users wanting to publish a live broadcast will have to do so via YouTube Live.
Some Hangouts On Air features such as Q&A and Showcase won't survive the transplant. Instead Google is giving users the option of Google Slides and social media outreach in their place.
Realpolitik
Hangouts On Air was arguably Google+'s most successful feature. And while some G+ diehards might be sad to see it go, it makes sense for Google to get all its live-streaming eggs in one basket.
Especially with the recent strides of Facebook Live and a resurgent Periscope.
