Google is testing a pilot program that allows marketers to place sponsored search results on Google Play.
Play to Play
Google announced the news in a blog post.
"App discovery plays a critical role in driving your continued success, and over the past year Google has provided best practices to enhance app discovery and engagement, as well as app promotion tools to get the most out of search and display advertising for developers.
"That’s why, in the next few weeks, we will begin piloting sponsored search results on Google Play, bringing our unique expertise in search ads to the store," Google wrote.
Ad it up
Now when users search for a particular category, (for example, hotel apps), brands can pay to have their app appear at the top of the rankings.
Sponsored search units are identified by a small 'Ad' icon, similar to the way ads appear on Google search.
Pay to Play
With over 1 billion users in 190 countries, Google Play is an important space for any brand with an app.
Google's new program might help making your app stand out that little bit easier, if you're willing to pay.
