An advertisement screened during the Super Bowl featuring Ferris Bueller's Day Off star Matthew Broderick calling in sick had viewers speculating about a sequel, but it's just a clever play by Honda.
The most sincere form of flattery
The Official 2012 Honda CR-V Game Day Commercial – “Matthew's Day Off” Extended Version video, a well-produced spoof of the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off has Broderick using his sick day to hoon around town in a Honda CRV, whilst avoiding his boss.
Bueller enthusiasts will recognise more than a few scenes from the film.
Over two dozen references to the film have been included in the video and viewers are encouraged to share their finds with the #dayoff hashtag. The campaign has not yet been announced on the Honda Australia Twitter channel (midday, 31 January 2012).
The video has been shared on Honda's Facebook today and has so far (midday) received mostly positive comments, 660 likes, and Honda's 'Talking about this' score is 30,303.
