Google+ now has 90 million users globally, more than double the number they attracted three months ago. By comparison, it took Facebook nearly five years to reach the 100 million mark.
The effect on search, together with growing engagement means Google+ isn’t going away any time soon, and should not be ignored by brands.
What can you do to ensure your brand's popularity on Google+? Here are some ideas.
1. Google Search Plus Your World
Google recently unveiled Search Plus Your World, which includes Google+ entries in search results.
Together with results which would usually be delivered, mentions of the brands from users the searcher is connected with now appear.
This is a huge change, and the most significant to date in personalised search results, putting the focus on social, and Google+ in particular.
How can you spark conversation to ensure users are talking about your brand?
2. Circles
Circles are the groups on Google+ which allow users to share information with specific groups of contacts.
You can create circles for different kinds of Google+ users. For example you might have different circles for your peers, heros, business customers and individual customers.
You can share different information with each circle.
Circles are usually hidden to other users, however you can create shared circles which is a great way to engage with users.
Can you create a circle which would be useful to your audience and fits with your brand? Great photographers, scientists, skateboarders, beauticians?
3. Do something great
Users need to be attracted to your Google+ page, as businesses aren't able to add users to circles without them reaching out first.
What engaging conversations or content can you create to attract users to connect with you on Google+? Could these be tailored to each circle?
