WhatsApp continues its push for all things video in a bid to lure new users – and presumably advertisers.
Look at this
WhatsApp users no longer have to wait precious seconds for a video to download, before they can watch it.
Videos can be streamed during the download process, making viewing more streamlined.
Baby steps
While it's a small step, it brings WhatsApp into line with bigger fish such as YouTube, which offers a similar feature.
Shaving a few seconds off video download times could encourage more users to tune in, and brands to post video ads.
The update comes soon after WhatsApp released video calling for its 1 billion users. There's also a Snapchat-esque Stories function in the works.
The update is available for Android users, with a wider roll out expected shortly.
