Instagram has debuted a new app function that blurs questionable posts with a “Sensitive Content” warning.
Offensive content gets the fog treatment
Users can blur content which could be labeled as “surprising or unwanted experiences” but not necessarily infringing on content guidelines.
Using “Two-Factor Authentication” will allow all users to enable this feature on posting boards, which had only previously been available to a select number of users.
Keeping it clean on the home screen
The use of two-factor authentication has long been recommended by security experts, and Instagram will be using this method via a “Require Security Code” option within the user settings section.
As a reaction to spam and community abuse, Instagram’s blur feature is a necessary step. With a myriad of users engaging the app for a range of content, this will allow for curbing subjective posts that could be offensive to some but not to others.
In addition to offering reporting tools and disabled comment functions, Instagram may have found a necessary middle ground.
