Acting more hare than tortoise, Instagram Stories has leapfrogged the platform that inspired its inception: Snapchat Stories.
Suck it up
Instagram Stories now has 200 million daily users, giving it a healthy lead over Snapchat Stories' 161 million daily users.
The rise of Instagram Stories has been startling. After launching in August last year, the feature had 100 million daily users by October. By January this year that figure had rise to 150 million.
Bigger is better
Instagram's habit of adopting Snapchat's most successful features may not be the most noble, but it's been ruthlessly effective. And the trend looks set to continue.
To mark passing 200 million dailies, Instagram released Selfie Sticker and Printing features, which bear more than a passing resemblance to Snapchat's 3D Stickers.
Snapchat's challenge this year will be staying one step ahead of Instagram, and the might of Facebook.
