Instagram is toying with a new Nametag system to help promote individual accounts.
Customize and scan
Instagram’s potential new feature would allow users to create and customise their very own Instagram code. The code could be scanned and the user immediately connected to the code author’s account.
Once more proving that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, some may detect a link to Snapchat’s Snapcodes.
Just like the codes that came before it, Nametag will use an in-app camera to scan the generated codes and connect users.
We are QR
According to TechCrunch, “[user’s will] be able to hit a QR scanner button on their profile to bring up the Nametag editor.”
The editor will allow users to choose between “a purple Instagram colour gradient background, a pattern of one emoji…or a selfie they can jazz up with augmented reality face filters.”
It’s tough to say if the new codes will catch on seeing as how Snapcodes proved more successful than Messenger Codes. If Instagram builds a bit of momentum, it could give brands a new promotional tool.
