Now that Instagram is getting serious about making in-app purchases,it's not surprising to learn team IG is developing a new standalone platform.
Insta-shopping
Very soon, users could find themselves able to browse collections direct from retailers, all via a new app rumoured to be called IG Shopping.
Though only a whisper around the campfire, sources say the app is well positioned to become Instagram’s first major push into e-commerce.
Over 25 million businesses are ready to push their own wares through the new platform, 2 million of which are advertisers, according to Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg.
Ripples in the cash pool
According to Instagram, four out of five users follow at least one brand. Creating a standalone app creates a new home for direct to consumer advertising and sales.
As many businesses have an Instagram account already, the transition becomes even more appealing as their marketing won’t be afloat amongst social and personal posts. Easier to find, easier to provide.
Are you excited for a standalone shopping app from Instagram? Do you think it can compete with the likes of Amazon? Give us your thoughts in our comment section.
