Instagram has just released its list of the most popular photos and trends of 2013. And top of the list is…(drumroll)…Justin Bieber.
Bieber fever
Instagram's 150 million users currently post 55 million photos a day. But the most popular post of the year was this picture of Justin Bieber taken with Will Smith that was the most popular – clocking up 1.5 million Likes.
Bieber is big news on Instagram, not only was he the first user to generate more than 1 million Likes for a post, but he now regularly passes that milestone, and has done so four times already in December.
All you need is…
Perhaps not unexpectedly, the top hashtag on Instagram for 2013 was #love.
Other popular hashtags included #friends, #fashion, #food and the ubiquitous #selfie.
Most popular day
The most Instagrammed day of 2013 was Thanksgivingukkah, the day where Thanksgiving and Hannukah overlapped.
Don't expect a repeat performance anytime soon though – 2013 was the first time the two holidays have shared the same date since 1888, they won't again for a few thousand years.
Top spots
Instagram is now truly a global platform – in fact 60 per cent of the platform's traffic comes from outside the US. This mix is reflected in the diverse spots users checked in over the year.
The most popular locations were Siam Paragon Shopping Mall in Bangkok, Times Square, Disneyland and Bellagio Fountains, Las Vegas.
The top Geo-tagged cities were New York, Bangkok, Los Angeles, London and Sao Paulo.
