Instagram’s most popular places revealed

Restaurants, beaches at sunset, the Statue of Liberty: ever wonder where the most popular places to take Instagram snaps are?

Now an interactive chart can show you.

Snap happy

The clever clogs at Busbud have created an interactive map detailing the most popular places to ‘gram in the US and Canada.

While all the expected superstars are here (the Golden Gate Bridge, Times Square, Disneyland), Busbud’s map throws up a few curve balls.

For example, it shows that Dollywood (Dolly Parton’s bespoke theme park) gets more engagement in Tennessee that that state’s most famous son, Elvis Presley.

And it turns out that Canadians are more likely to snap landmarks and historical sites than their southern neighbours.

Park it

The map also shows what type of area is most popular with the Instagram army. Parks top the list, followed by wineries and vineyards.

However the beach wins when it comes to hashtags. Posts with #beach feature in over 97 million posts, while #beachlife accounts for 12 million posts.

A fair distance behind are the more rustic hashtags #hiking (9 million posts) and #wilderness (1 million).
