LinkedIn has debuted new media-rich profiles that allow users to promote themselves and their services through photos and video.

The new Profile Pages are designed to let users more vividly display their work. For example, photographers can now create a portfolio of their work, designers can submit artwork and filmmakers may now upload videos.
“For the first time, you will now have the ability to showcase your unique professional story using rich, visual content on your LinkedIn profile. This means you can illustrate your greatest achievements in the form of stunning images, compelling videos, innovative presentations and more.
“From the analyst who makes annual predictions on tech trends to the 3D animator who is looking to fund a new short film, the opportunities are limitless for how professionals can now use the LinkedIn profile to help showcase these unique stories in a visual way,” wrote LinkedIn Product Manager Udi Milo.
Future vision
The new visual content can be added to the Profile Page under the summary, work experience and education sections.
Images and videos can be liked and commented on, with a sharing option coming soon.
Keeping up with the Joneses
The update comes as LinkedIn aggressively adds new social functions as it seeks to become a social hub for professionals, not just a platform for job seeking.
It will also give users more control over the look of their Profile Page. Up until now, the LinkedIn profile of a barrister and fashion designer looked pretty much the same.
With this updated, users will be able to customise their profile to better reflect their industry and strengths.
The update is now available to all English-speaking countries. To learn more visit blog.linkedin.com.
