While Silicon Valley may be the centre of the tech universe, New Zealand is frequently first to try all sorts of new features from Facebook and other major players.
So today we’re looking at Facebook stats from the land of the Long White Cloud.
Kiwiana
Today over 2 million Kiwis log in to Facebook every day, while more than 2.5 million do so every month.
To put this in perspective, over half the population of New Zealand is on Facebook every day.
Gender split
Facebook usage slightly favours females in New Zealand. At last count 54% of New Zealand women were on Facebook, compared to 46% of men.
However, between the age groups of 18 – 24 years and 25 – 34 years, men outnumber women.
Keeping Kiwis connected
The main reason Kiwis log in to Facebook is to stay connected with family and friends (79%).
Over 50% of Facebookers use it to relax, and around one third use the platform for entertainment and news.
Brand news
In good news for retailers, 80% of Kiwis have discovered products or brands on the platform.
While 56% of users who discover a brand or product on Facebook remain on the platform to learn more, or visit the business’s website.
Finally, 36% of Kiwis who find a business or product on Facebook will share or discuss it with their peers.
