Despite stiff competition from major players like Google and Apple, Dropbox remains one of the most popular (and innovative) cloud storage systems out there.
With ever-increasing features for brands, today we’re gazing upwards to see what’s happening at Dropbox.
Drop in
Dropbox was founded in 2007 by MIT students Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowski.
Houston apparently came up with the idea after repeatedly losing his USB flash drive around campus.
Up in the cloud
Today Dropbox has 400 million users – around the same number as Instagram.
Every hour 100,000 new files and links are created on Dropbox, while over a typical day 1.2 billion files are uploaded to the service.
Out and about
Dropbox remains a favourite of global mobile users and is available in 19 languages.
To date the Dropbox Android app has been downloaded over 500 million times.
Company favourite
Dropbox plays well with others.
Over 35 billion MS Office files are stored on Dropbox, and 150,000 companies use the service.
