Like Super Bowl ads and Lady GaGa’s hair, every year mobile marketing gets bigger.
So as we ease into 2015 SMK looks back on another bumper 12 mobile months.
On-the-grow
At last count there were over 6.8 billion smartphones scattered around the globe, almost one for every person.
The country with the largest number of mobiles is China with 1.2 billion, followed by India (924 million) and the US (327 million).
Australian comes in 38th position, with 30.2 million mobiles (for 22.7 million citizens).
Shopping habits
Mobile has undoubtedly changed the way we shop.
Over 67% of mobile users shop from home, while 30% of users admit shopping at work and in-store.
Aussie's on-the-go
Australians are mobile mad, to put it mildly. Per capita we're some of the highest smartphone users in the world.
Users aged 25 – 34 are most likely to make a purchase via their mobile, while 35% of Australian mobile users pay their bills via mobile apps.
Tablet time
The big brother of the smartphone is no slouch when it comes to mobile stats.
While just 12% of US users own a tablet, two thirds of these use their tablets to research products and 30% will make purchases.
Black Friday
On last year’s Black Friday, traditionally the biggest retail day in the US, 50% of web traffic for retailers was from mobile devices.
