It’s been a big month for Facebook Live – the streaming service got longer, enhanced features, and even audience targeting.
Now Twitter’s Periscope is keeping up with the Joneses with its latest raft of updates.
Trailer Park
The major new announcement is Highlights. Essentially this will create a short hype reel for every Periscope broadcast – sort of like your own movie trailer.
This will presumably help viewers decide whether they want to commit to that 30 minute live stream.
Embed and AutoPlay
You can now also view Periscope broadcasts through embedded tweets.
Users have long been able to view streams on Twitter.com, but by extending functionality to embeds, Periscope is dramatically increasing the places viewers can tune in.
Finally, Android users can now access an Autoplay function, with streams muted before you decide to view.
The update will no doubt attract more users to Twitter’s original streaming platform. Whether it can lure them away from Facebook Live is another matter.
