Sick of typing on your smartphone only have it auto-correct your sentence into gibberish?
We sure are, so it was with some anticipation that we recently road tested the much-talked about app SwiftKey.
Our type of app
While there are plenty of touchscreen keyboards out there, in our opinion SwiftKey is the best. And while nothing can replace the experience of working on an actual keyboard, this app comes close.
The only catch – SwiftKey is only available for Android users.
Tap 'n' go
SwiftKey harnesses the open-source DNA of Android and swaps your smartphone's pre-loaded keyboard with one designed for the delicate art of thumb typing and enhanced auto-correct.
Style guide
But what really sets SwiftKey apart is the way that once installed, it scans your texts, emails and social media posts to gain an understanding of your writing style.
This results in predictive texts far ahead of the competition, and while the system isn't perfect the more you use SwiftKey, the more it adapts.
Go with the Flow
Another clever initiative is Flow, the app's feature that allows you to drag your finger over words instead of spelling them out.
As you hover over your selected letter suggestions pop up, most of which are on the money. While longer words aren't great using the feature, it's a nice touch when composing short and sharp missives.
Keys to success
We found SwiftKey's layout easy and intuitive to use, and within a few minutes were bashing out texts and emails faster than Usain Bolt on a Red Bull.
Our only real qualm: no iOS version on the horizon.
