As Facebook continues to make announcement after announcement, (not the least of which being Instagram’s IGTV), Snapchat is staying current with more intimate and geo-local Snap info.
What’s it like where you are?
Fun animations based on the weather your friends are experiencing can be seen when users zoom in on someone’s Bitmoji, revealing animated raindrops, sunshine, etc.
But Snapchat isn’t stopping at just weather effects, they also want to add event-related animations such as confetti for parties, and holiday-themed effects.
Privacy Problems
Imagine real-world animated updates regarding weather, fires, floods, or any other such natural disaster. The opportunity for reporting could be as of yet untapped.
Snapchat remains the little billion-dollar engine that could against Facebook’s trillion-dollar locomotive, but Snap features have remained cool in a way Facebook hasn’t – and that may make all the difference.
Would you use Snap Map to stay up to date with friend and/or surrounding weather? What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
