Snapchat now lets European users purchase Geofilters from their phones in order to mark special events.
The future is filtered
Geofilters can be purchased from £5.99 to cover map areas from 1800 square meters. This can be expanded to up to to 450,000 square meters.
Users can set their Geofilter to last from a few hours to several days. The filters are meant to be tailored towards parties, graduations, weddings, and large scale events.
The process
Once a user has selected the size and duration of an event poised for a geofilter, the request is sent to Snapchat for approval. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to a full day for approval.
The easy to use process of cordoning off locations is a smart move for Snapchat, as it plays to its core strengths.
The mobile creation tool could keep Snap at the forefront of social media discourse, even with Facebook and Instagram’s me-too approach of cloning ideas.
