Original programing is coming to Snapchat, and it's not all reality TV and event coverage either (!)
Getting’ original
Snapchat’s bread and butter remains its relevancy with teenage demographics, and now it wants to compete with big name subscription services with the launch of Snap Originals.
Though Snapchat has the ear of the young crowd, it still doesn’t’ have the overall numbers to really get competitive with the programing of YouTube Red or Facebook Watch, at least until now.
Snapchat will be releasing a dozen original shows and working with the producers of Keeping up with the Kardashians and Friday Night Lights.
But what shows are on the docket?
Two shows already confirmed are the supernatural soap opera The Dead Girls Detective Agency and the college comedy Co-Ed and a slew of docu-series.
New Show Profile pages will make searching out shows easier and allow reaction lenses for the shows’ biggest moments. While a new Show Portal with an AR feature that will allow users to virtually explore selected scenes
Viewership on Snapchat has tripled in the last year so the platform is heading in the right direction. With the future addition of network involvement and sports coverage, the era of Snap TV could be at hand.
