The film editing web and software developer Filmora has created an infographic around the latest facts for YouTube.
YouTube’s numbers tell a story
Since its founding in 2005, YouTube has ballooned to over 1.5 billion monthly active users. According to Filmora’s infographic, over 500 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute.
As of June 2017, YouTube is second only to Facebook with 2 billion users and Instagram and Twitter in third and fourth place with 700 million and 328 million monthly users respectively.
Users aged 25 to 44 make up 49% of total viewership, which means the platform is well positioned to grow with its key demographics. Furthermore, user percentage by gender has seen 62% as male and 38% female.
Average video upload stats
YouTube personalities and blog posts dominate with 41% of uploads, followed by gaming (14%), film and animation (10%), entertainment (8%), music (5%), science and tech (4%), sports (3%), and news (3%).
Interestingly, Music is the most-searched term on YouTube in 2017 at 789 million, with Songs in second place at 453 million, and MineCraft in third with 83 million.
As for what this all means for the future of the online video juggernaut, it's tough to say, though music seems to be intrinsically associated with its success, parent company Google will continue to whistle a happy tune.
