As 3D becomes increasingly mainstream, Vimeo has released instructions to stream holograms via its platform.
How to hologram
Vimeo Creator Labs engineer Or Fleisher has blogged an answer the question: ‘Can we live stream a 3D hologram of the presenter in real time?’
More than just a ‘Yes we can’, Fleisher gives details on how to do it.
While acknowledging that volumetric video is challenging for both technical and creative, Fleisher’s post makes it seem simple for content creators.
What you need
To stream your own holograms, you’ll need little more than a device capable of capturing depth from the real world and a Vimeo Live account.
Fleisher’s instructions are clear enough, but a bit of technical know-how in your team may make things smooth. could free you up to concentrate on the creative possibilities.
Vimeo give Scatter a shot
‘Volumetric content’ is already a reality, but the tech available to consumers isn’t yet on a par with impressive sci-fi imaginings we’ve seen on the big screen. Still, Vimeo is looking to develop that too.
The announcement builds on an earlier blog post wherein Emily Grover—Vimeo’s Content Marketing Manager—wrote about ‘volumetric filmmaking’ as ‘the future of video’ and discussed Vimeo’s collaborations with Scatter—a AR/VR studio.
Are you eager to get into volumetric video ASAP, or will you wait for it to penetrate further into the mainstream?
