Telstra has marked the launch of its new 4G service with the campaign “The Fun Has Just Begun.” Highlighting the increased upload speeds available on the new service, Telstra enlisted internet celebrities to launch the campaign in central Sydney last week.
Dancing in the streets
YouTube star Rebecca Black was joined by Evolution of Dance creator Judson Lippey and other online celebrities in a huge street event that included free music and dance performances. A flash mob of 1,500 participants wore T-shirts with Telstra’s new branding and colours.
Spectators were encouraged to film the event and upload clips to YouTube, and the campaign’s hashtag #4gfun trended on Twitter.
4G still waiting to sprint
While 4G promises upload speeds up to three times faster than on current 3G networks, the service is currently only available on a USB stick that can be attached to laptops.
Optus and Vodafone will be rolling out their own 4G services in 2012 as the network expands to power mobile devices, namely the growing smartphone and tablet market.
