Look out hipsters, new wearable technology is coming your way, and this time it’s got big fashion backing its wacky play.
It comes with rewards?
Behold a new line of men’s and women’s clothing with patented smart-chip technology embedded within. Meet Tommy Jeans Xplore.
So can you answer calls with the touch of a sleeve? Pull down your hood for a quick text savvy heads up display? No. But it will reward you for simply wearing it, apparently.
In contrast to Google’s Project Jacquard (which does give you access to calls and texts), the Xplore line will link with the XPLORE iOS app via Bluetooth.
Why again are there points?
Wearers will receive points for momentous achievements such as wearing the clothing often, or walking around and finding heart-shaped Tommy icons. Sounds like a painful version of Pokémon Go!
Points accumulated through such great deeds translate into rewards like signed merchandise, gift cards, and pieces from the “Tommy Hilfiger archives.”
Marketing excercise or tech breakthrough? We think the former – however if Hilfiger could work on hoverboards, that'd be something.
What do you think about the new Xplore lineup from Tommy? Do you own any other wearable tech or “smart clothes?” Let us know in the comment section.
