Micro-blogging platform and social networking website Tumblr has announced it now attracts more than 15 billion page views per month.
The best of both worlds
Tumblr falls somewhere between a blog and Twitter, it allows users to custom-design a blog and share content such as text, photos and video.
Users can 'follow' one another on the Tumblr network and re-blog posts, meaning content is amplified quickly. Unlike Twitter, the entire post, not just the headline or link, is shared and appears in the stream of users who follow the sharer.
The average Tumblr post is re-blogged 9 times, with only 10% of users creating original content.
Content can be uploaded via mobile devices and can be shared via social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
40 million reasons for brands
Brands such as fashion label Bergdorf and IBM have well established Tumblr profiles.
With over 40 million blogs currently active on the platform and a rapidly growing user base, Tumblr is another service brands can utilise for exposure and to connect with customers.
