Number Crunch: Google+ growth

Google+ statistics aren’t easy to come across. Google is in a privileged position where they don’t have to publicly share results to find repeat investment. Here’s what we’ve gleaned:

1. Over 90 million users

Whilst reporting to investors on 19 January 2011 Google CEO Larry Page shared that Google+ now has 90 million users globally. We’d suggest a ‘user’ is someone who’s signed up for Google+.

2. 60% engage with Google products daily

Page also shared that, “+users are very engaged with our products — over 60% of them engage daily, and over 80% weekly.” This statement has been interpreted in different ways – as to whether Google+ users are engaged on Google+, or with other Google offerings. It is most likely that these are Google+ users who are engaging with Google’s other offerings – which include Google search, and Youtube.

3. 55% grown from November to December 2011 in the USA

Experian Hitwise in the USA recently reported that Google+ experienced 55% growth in US traffic month on month from November 2011 to December 2011.

4. 74% of traffic from return visitors in the USA

Experian Hitwise in the USA found that 74% of the traffic to Google+ was from returning visitors.

It’s undeniable that Google+ is growing, however accurate measures of engagement are hard to come by. With the inclusion of Google+ in search results though, and the power of Google as a search engine, it's pertinent to have a Google+ presence.
