In a further move away from 140 characters, Twitter will now allow users to embed videos on their website.
Screen time
An official blog post announced that Twitter-hosted videos can now be embedded on websites using the simple “Embed Video” option.
Once clicked this button will reveal a line of HTML code that users can then cut and paste to embed the video on their website.
The embedded video comes with a timeline, playback controls, a full-screen option and Twitter logo.
Importantly, viewers will be able to follow you without leaving the player.
Small steps
The update covers two important priorities for Twitter: keeping traffic in its eco-system, and a continuing shift towards rich content such as images and photos.
With studies showing tweets with videos attached lead to a 28% boost in retweets, expect more video-related updates on the way.
