Video and mobile are the two biggest things on Facebook at the moment. Now the twin giants are coming together with video profiles for mobile.
Mobile mugs
Facebook announced the news in a blog post,
"The world has changed since we first introduced profiles in 2004. On News Feed and profiles, we’re seeing people create and view more videos than ever before.
"Today we’re starting to test the next step in an obvious evolution of profiles: profile videos."
Video to go
Soon mobile users will be able to add a short, looping profile video of themselves.
Static profile pictures aren't forgotten either. They’re now centered, and users can select a new profile picture that will appear for a certain amount of time.
For example, you can use a picture of yourself as a child on your birthday, or the mascot of a sports team before a big game.
Greater controls
As part of the update, the space above your profile is now customisable, meaning you can determine which fields are visible, and also add pictures or a one-line bio.
With more than four billion profiles viewed every day, video profiles have the potential to give brands more flexibility in how they communicate on mobile.
For now the changes are only available to select users in the UK and California, with a wider roll out expected in the coming months.
Would you use video profiles on your Facebook mobile profile? Let is know how in the comments.
