Google Search remains, even more than Facebook, a constant in our digital lives.
Aside from ramping up security and adding functionality for things like flight bookings, in 2016 Google Search made no bones about the fact that it was evolving for mobile. And woe betide anyone who stubbornly clings to the desktop.
Count down
Google is preparing to launch a standalone index for mobile results, intended to make mobile browsing smoother.
Google also speed up its app for iOS, and released AMP'd (the Accelerated Mobile Pages Project), designed to give preference to mobile-friendly websites.
Smooth sailing
While mobile was Search's biggest push of the year, Google also released a tonne of small, handy updates for webizens.
These include In Apps Search (to make finding content on your phone faster), enhanced Autocomplete, easier ways to register to vote in the US Election, and the ability to search via images.
But really, it's all about being mobile-ready. Are you?
