Google is starting with a clean slate in 2018, beginning with its biggest ever overhaul of YouTube’s advertising rules.
Keep it clean
The move comes in response to ongoing complaints from advertisers, after ads appeared next to videos showing offensive content.
There are now stricter guidelines in place around which videos can be monetised, while premium videos from advertisers will undergo a revised vetting process.
Unwatchable
In an effort to weed out trolls and attract bigger bucks (and eyeballs), only YouTube channels with over 1000 subscribers, and 4000 viewing hours annually, can monetise content.
However this isn’t a cure-all. YouTube has recently faced controversy over offensive content posted by high-profile creators such as PewDiePie and Logan Paul.
We'll just have to wait and stream to see if YouTube's crack down can lure back those lucrative advertising dollars. We're betting it will.
