We first reported on Uptime, the Google-backed social video app. in April. Back then, its distribution was very limited. Now, it appears to be moving out of its beta phase to a broader market.

At launch, Uptime was exclusive to iPhone and available only by invitation. Now, the invite requirement has gone and users can find Uptime friends via their Facebook network.
…Not yet all
So far, Uptime remains iOS only, with no word on when or even if an Android version is coming.
Also, access to Uptime is still geo-blocked to the US App Store. Some Aussie Apple-users might be able to get around the restrictions, but most locals are still forced to wait.
Competitive Potential
Uptime has been lauded as a YouTube party app with serious social potential. If Google decides to integrate it with the core YouTube app, it could really take off.
Still, there are questions about whether it is moving quick enough. Tumblr’s Cabana has been faster to Android and there’s even talk of Skype moving in to the co-watching space.
Coming straight out of Area 120—Google’s staff project incubator—Uptime could yet prove a force. To do it, it’s going to need more momentum than it has now.
As video gets increasingly social, is Uptime your best bet to become to the go-to app? If not, who is going to lead the way?
